The new healthcare system will have one major fatal flaw, no doctors for the 30 million additional patients. Last year Orrin Hatch, Republican Senator From Utah said, “The Shortage is reaching crisis proportions”. This before healthcare reform ever reached a vote.
People who have coverage now are finding it hard to locate a doctor. There are several proposals offered by the federal government which would increase enrollment in medical schools but there are few slots open for residency training at hospitals.
This is a serious problem. Dr. Atul Grover from The Association of American Medical Colleges said, “We need to make sure we have physicians to take care of a population that is growing and becoming older, let’s say we insure everyone. What next? We won’t be able to take care of all those people overnight.”
Another problem the Obama administration is facing, a shortage in specialists. In many parts of the country, this shortage has caused patients to look for services in other states. Obama has poured millions of dollars into clinics throughout the country but a lot of these clinics still don’t have enough doctors to serve the public.
The doctor shortage leads us to believe the federal government will hire doctors from outside the United States or implement a rush program for new students entering medical schools. If this happens, the quality of healthcare in the U.S. will be greatly reduced. Many doctor offices and clinics already use registered nurses to diagnose and administer treatment, this is not healthcare.
In addition, 20 million illegal Aliens could also be put on the healthcare rolls, if the President’s amnesty program passes in the senate. This would bring the total new patients to over 50 million. The math just doesn’t add up. Where are all of the doctors going to come from?

A year later, democrats continue to butt heads over healthcare. The reason, you the people. Pro abortion rights advocates want abortions covered, and conservatives don’t. The cost is just too high for some, while others want to see a final bill before making a decision.
