Unemployment 9.7 Democrats Focus On Healthcare

February 28, 2010

With the unemployment rate remaining at 9.7 percent, President Obama and Democrat leaders in Congress continue to focus on healthcare reform.

In January, the President promised that his number one priority would be jobs, jobs, jobs. During the President’s State of The Union speech, this promise was repeated time and again.

So why are the Democrats back on the healthcare train? Simple, President Obama’s number one priority is President Obama.

It has become increasingly clear that this administration has turned the Presidency into a Left-Winged crusade for government control of healthcare and the private sector, at all cost.

Even with Democrat Senate seats hanging in the balance, the President is unable or unwilling to do what is right, and that is keep his promises.

He promised to put people back to work. Americans are fed up with this whole healthcare debate and want the President and Congress to focus on jobs. This was clearly the issue on the minds of voters during the Democrat’s losses in Massachusetts, Virginia And New Jersey last year.

Michigan has an unemployment rate of 14.6 percent, followed by Nevada 13.0, South Carolina 12.6, California 12.4, and District of Columbia 12.1. Most other states have unemployment rates above 10 percent, this is unacceptable.

The recent Healthcare Summit is a good example of just how Washington has wasted time and energy on healthcare.

Americans deserve better from our leaders in Washington. In November, the American people have a chance to right the wrong and remove those unwilling to do the will of the people. Let’s send a strong message to Congress in 2010.

ACORN Same Nut New Shell

February 26, 2010

Beware – The Community Organization known as ACORN, has been hard at work trying to change their image. In efforts to hide their past behavior, the organization is popping up under new names. Their national name has been changed to Community Organizations International (COI).

Most, if not all of ACORNS managing officers continue to operate the organization. Some operations have been discontinued, such as their tax preparation services.

In California their new name is, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, or ACCE.

Almost all of ACORN’s top organizers are joining the group in California, including their executive director. Changing the name of ACORN’s troubled branches is nothing new. There is a clear pattern here, ACORN has over 200 entities operating under the umbrella of their national organization. 48,000 members will be asked to join the ACCE in California.

In New York, ACORN has change their name to, New York Communities for Change. According to Ann Sullivan, who represents the nonprofit, the newly formed organization will not have any ties to national organizations, including ACORN. Now if you believe that, I have some swamp land I’d like you to take a look at.

ACORN is under federal investigation in 11 states for possible attempted voter fraud in the 2008 elections. Congress cut funds off to the ailing organization in 2009, following a video scandal in which ACORN employees were shown helping an undercover amateur reporter, dressed as a pimp, cheat on his taxes and setup a brothel with underage girls.

It is important to note these name changes as ACORN will surely attempt to lobby for federal monies again, just under their new names. Currently ACORN is reorganizing all of their operations throughout the country and more name changes will follow.

Healthcare Summit Accomplishes Nothing

February 25, 2010

The long anticipated Healthcare Summit was more of a debate lacking any form of discussion. The first half of the debate centered on Democrat and Republican “Philosophical Differences”, which seemed to be the theme during the first 3 hours.

Political posturing and talking points were thrown around the room like Frisbees.

Democrats stood by their plan for a government run healthcare system, and Republicans tried to punch holes in the President’s claim that his healthcare plan would lower insurance premiums for all Americans, while lowering
the the federal deficit.

A very frustrated Barack Obama argued that a government overhaul is needed for our future economic stability, while Republicans argued Americans cannot afford a $2.5 trillion healthcare overhaul at this time.

Each party agreed, something must be done to lower the cost of health coverage, but disagreed on just how to accomplish this, at a cost agreeable to the American people. Several times Republicans ask the President to scrap the current bill and to start over with fresh ideas offered at the  summit, each time this suggestion was mentioned, it was met with sneers from Democratic leaders.

President Obama said that his goal is to cover all Americans under his plan, but fell short of explaining just how we would pay for such an expansive undertaking. This whole exchange, at times was heated and both sides seemed very defensive.

In an awkward moment, specifically directed towards Republicans, Vice President Biden said ” We can have our philosophical differences, but you are either in or out”. This remark was followed by President Obama quickly redirecting attention back to the issues.

This went on for the entire seven and a half hours, each party laying out the facts as they see them. The meeting was more of a boxing match then a bipartisan debate on healthcare.

In the end, President Obama said “the people deserve a vote on this issue”. Republicans warned the President that, Reconciliation should not be used for such an important issue such as healthcare. To pass healthcare using Reconciliation requires only 51 votes in the Senate versus the normal 61 votes needed to pass a bill.

In my view this Summit was a complete waste of time and taxpayer money. Nothing was accomplished and the time would have been better used working on ways to put Americans back to work.
